The Institute is promoted and managed by the senior management personnel of Volvo construction Equipment, one of the leading manufacturers of construction equipment.

History

Need for Road Training Institutes

1. Massive investments are being made during the recent past in various road development projects in the national, state and local levels and to continue for the next 15 to 20 years or even more.
2. Modern approach in the design ,specification, construction and management techniques being adopted in these projects
3. Vast majority of existing professionals lack the required knowledge and expertise in road sector, particularly on recent advancements in various areas such as project planning, investigations, design, new materials, specifications, equipment / machinery, construction and project management techniques
4. Acute shortage in technical personnel for senior and middle level positions in the area of road technology in all the organizations representing the client / employer / concessionaire, consultants and contractors
5. Fresh Graduates in civil engineering need to be imparted special training in specified topics of road technology and project management before they could be usefully utilized
6. Shortage of infrastructure facilities and number of institutions for conducting training programs to suit the requirements of various agencies

Establishment of RASTA - Center for Road Technology

Considering the above situation in the country and after ascertaining the need for establishing institutes for imparting training in the area of Road Technology, M/s Ingersoll Rand (India) Limited Bangalore, one of leading industries manufacturing road construction equipment decided to start an institute in the their premises in order to impart appropriate training to professionals who are associated with road construction projects.

RASTA (Resource centre for Asphalt and Soil Training Academy) was started in the year 2002 and was developed by providing essential infrastructure facilities.

With the acquisition of Road Machinery Division of Ingersoll Rand (India ) Ltd by Volvo India Pvt Ltd in the year 2007, RASTA is now managed by trustees appointed by Volvo (India) Pvt. Ltd

RASTA has grown in strength with support of number of experts who have offered to serve as guest faculty and to disseminate knowledge to trainees.
